Breast milk is best for your baby

The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. Unnecessary introduction of bottle feeding or other food and drinks will have a negative impact on breastfeeding. After six months of age, infants should receive age appropriate foods while breastfeeding continues for up to two years of age or beyond. Consult your doctor before deciding to use infant formula or if you have difficulty breastfeeding.

Activities to Train Brain Coordination

Activities to Train Brain Coordination

As parents, we want our children to grow up to become successful individuals. How you teach, guide and mould your child has a lasting effect on her future. One of the ways you can help her brain development is via brain coordination training.

By brain coordination training, we mean engaging in activities that use both her left and right brain hemispheres. The left brain hemisphere is responsible for measurement, maths, and logic, while the right controls intuition, creativity, and speech. Research indicates that improving the balance between the two hemispheres leads to better safety awareness, confidence, comprehension, and focus.

Activities that enhance brain coordination are actually very common, too. Walking, running, swimming and even crawling – all these activities help your child use both sides of her body, and in doing so activate ‘crossed pattern’ functions. A noteworthy activity would be drumming. It not only provides cross-brain training, but also requires coordination of both hands and legs.

Using the non-master hand is another great way to train brain coordination. If your child is right-handed, have her try to draw, copy, and catch with her left hand instead. The counterintuitive action increases brain activity. Even a few minutes a day can have a significant impact on her brain development.
