  • How do I help my child adapt to the new formula easily?

    Day 1 – 3:

    • Continue regular feeding routine with existing milk formula for the 1st and 3rd feed.

    Day 4 – 6:

  • My child is not talking yet. Should I be worried?
    If your child isn’t speaking yet by the middle of this stage, it could be due to several reasons, none of which are necessarily a cause for concern. Boys’ language skills tend to develop more slowly than girls’, and the more reserved children tend to wait until they understand a lot of what they hear before they actually speak. Bring your child to the doctor if you are still concern.
  • Should I be giving my toddler more food?
    As your toddler’s tummy is small, eating smaller meals is still quite normal. It is, however, important to make sure he eats enough over a week. It’s perfectly normal for him to eat more on some days, and less at other times. You may offer him healthy snacks between meals, such as a mini sandwich, which he’ll enjoy while he carries on with his all-important business of play.

    You can tell your toddler is full if he:

    • turns his head away and doesn’t open his mouth when food is offered;
    • pushes food away;
    • says “no”;
    • holds food in his mouth but refuses to swallow it;
    • repeatedly spits food out;
    • tries to climb out of highchair;
    • gags or retches;
    • cries, screams and shouts.
  • When can I start potty training my child?

    You can tell your child is ready if he:

    • poos at times that are relatively predictable and doesn’t do it at night;
    • stays dry for 1-2 hours, or wakes up with a dry diaper after a nap;
    • can pull his pants up and down;
    • shows interest when you go to the toilet;
    • shows he’s uncomfortable with a soiled diaper;
    • can understand and follow simple instructions;
    • knows the words pee and poo, or their equivalent;
    • is aware that he’s having a pee or a poo;
    • tells you he needs to pee or poo before doing it.
  • How do I manage a fussy eater?
    Most toddlers go through a phase of eating only the few foods they know because they fear new foods and are reluctant to try them. Thankfully, it’s a phase that will pass. Here are some other ways that can help take the fuss out of mealtimes.
    • Ensure your toddler gets enough exercise so he’ll have better appetite for his meals.
    • Eat together whenever possible, so your child can learn to eat new foods by watching and copying others in the family.
    • Make positive comments about the food you’re eating so your toddler may be more willing to try them.
    • Praise your toddler when he eats well.
    • Make mealtimes relaxed and enjoyable; chat about things other than eating, and let your toddler eat with other children as often as possible.
    • Ensure there are no distractions such as TV, toys, or books during mealtimes.
    • Allow you child to use his hands to eat, or make a mess if he wants to.
    • Have a consistent schedule for mealtimes.
    • Ensure your child is not tired during mealtimes.
    • Limit mealtimes to 30 minutes.
    • Keep your toddler interested in his meals with a variety of recipes.
  • Should I consult a doctor to see if my child is developing slower than normal?
    Do remember that every child develops at his own pace, in his own time. However, it may be good to speak to your child’s doctor if you notice your toddler:
    • can't walk by the middle of this stage;
    • doesn't know nor understand the use of everyday objects;
    • can’t speak at least six words by the middle of this stage, or two-word sentences by the end of this stage;
    • doesn't imitate words and actions;
    • can’t follow simple instructions;
    • has lost skills he previously had.
  • Is it all right for my toddler to watch shows on television, the computer, etc?
    At this stage, you should keep your child’s television, tablet, and computer watching to a bare minimum. If you do allow her to engage in the activity, break it up into 10-minute sessions. Any more than that, and she may start to lose focus.

    Make sure that the television set is not in your child’s bedroom, and that it’s not turned on during mealtimes as it instils discipline and lets her know there’s a time and place for every activity.

    Also, carefully select appropriate programmes that are calm and quiet for your child to enjoy. Then, give her a 5-minute warning that her show is about to end, to help her get ready for the next activity. And whenever possible, watch the programme with her to foster bonding while also keeping a close eye on what she’s exposed to.
  • Will sugar make my child hyper active physically overactive?
    Most research have concluded that sugar does not cause hyperactivity physically overactivity. Banning sugar from your child’s diet is not going to stop him from bouncing off the walls. There are, of course, many good reasons to cut back on sugary foods. They usually provide little or no nutrition and increase the risk of obesity, heart disease, and tooth decay.
  • How can I help my toddler get over her dislike for hair wash?
    Your child is not alone in disliking hair wash. And it’s understandable. One solution is to get a splash guard that she could wear across her forehead.

    Another solution is to focus on the way your toddler’s hair is washed. Let her rub in the shampoo. Then you can help her make shapes like horns, curls and twirls with her foamy hair to distract and amuse her. And when it’s your turn to wash your hair, let her rub the shampoo into your hair. Make hair wash fun together.
  • How can I encourage my child to love books?
    Looking at books with your toddler daily as part of her quiet time and/or bedtime routine will definitely help her develop a love for books. Even if you do not go through the book page by page, she’ll enjoy listening to you talk about the picture. It also doesn’t matter if you’ve read a particular book a million times. Encourage your child to point out and name familiar animals and objects and colours.
